Minister Erjavec attends NATO Summit in Brussels
On the first day, Minister Erjavec took part in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of heads of delegation, and then participated in a separate working dinner of the North Atlantic Council of foreign ministers with representatives of Iraq, Jordan and Tunisia.
The discussion focused on NATO’s operations on its Southern flank and in the Southern neighbourhood, which was adopted during the Summit. The ministers assessed the political and security situation in the Middle East and North Africa and went on to exchange views on the possibilities of enhancing political and practical cooperation with partners.
“Providing assistance to our regional partners in building capacities to be able to face various threats and challenges is also beneficial to us,” explained Minister Karl Erjavec, stressing the importance Slovenia attaches to the setting up of a new NATO Hub for the South, a facility based in Naples, as it helps improve situation awareness, management and exchange of information and offers a good platform for cooperation with NATO partners in the region. The Hub also has a great deal of unexplored potential, Slovenia supports its activity and sent a representative there already in February this year,” explained the Foreign Minister.
